At Shore Design, we take pride in finding unique solutions for various waterfront projects, including:
The Shore Design team specializes in providing the following core services:
The Shore Design team stays current with design innovation, regulatory changes, and technological advances. This growth mindset, along with our experience and professional qualifications, keeps us well-positioned as your longterm waterfront advisor.
This starts during our first conversation by discussing your goals and ideas. We then plan specialized tasks to create the foundation for the project, including surveys, a regulatory + zoning analysis, design research, and wildlife consultations.
We assemble the appropriate in-house and extended team members based on the needs of your project, including you (client/owner) and the Shore Design service team, plus as-needed support from construction advisors, engineers, landscape architects, and wetland scientists. Using the desired outcome as a guide, we bring your project into focus with a thoughtful design process.
Shore Design is experienced with local, state, and federal permitting requirements (e.g.: DEEP permit, Army Corps permit, city coastal permit, town coastal permit, association coastal permit, boat lift permit, bulkhead permit, davit permit, dock permit, seawall permit, tidal wetland permit, etc.). We prepare the necessary regulatory permit applications and documents, file applications on your behalf, present before boards + commissions, and track the project until permit decisions are issued.
Shore Design can assist with introductions to marine and general contractors to help find the best match for you and the project and/or prepare different levels of bid packages depending on your desired involvement and available budget.
Shore Design can handle land record filings and work start notices, coordinate a construction stakeout, observe construction, provide professional guidance, and request permit modifications.
When construction is complete, Shore Design can coordinate/prepare record drawings, review the work for compliance certification, and file project close-out documents with the agencies.
Whether it’s helping you with one project or recurring work, our goal is to become your go-to waterfront advisor by providing responsive, credible, and personable service.
The Shore Design team of architects, designers, environmental scientists, and consulting professional engineers will develop a design that responds to the site conditions, satisfies regulatory requirements, and, most importantly, meets your project goals.
The Shore Design team will work to understand your project goals so we can develop a customized plan that turns your waterfront ideas into reality.
Phragmites australis, better known as phrag, is an invasive plant that grows in wet and disturbed soil along shorelines, wetlands, and roads. If left alone, it forms dense clumps that can block views, choke out native plants, and become a fire hazard. Its strong root system requires a multi-year treatment program to control it. Shore Design is a CT licensed pesticide applicator business that has experience successfully controlling phrag. Our team can develop a customized plan that will minimize these plants on your property.

Looking to purchase a waterfront property? Shore Design can conduct a visual review of the shoreline and any waterfront structures, conduct file research with regulatory agencies, and prepare a report with our findings. This report documents the general condition of the shoreline, if any permits exist for the structures, and if the shoreline is appropriate for new improvements.
Have you received a DEEP notice of non-compliance or violation from other regulatory agency? The Shore Design team can help navigate this process by representing your interests and finding an appropriate solution.
Shore Design can conduct a visual assessment of your shoreline and any waterfront structures and prepare a letter report of our findings.
